[An Introduction to the Anti-Graffiti Web]

Audio welcome! (.wav)

This page was originally created to chronicle the efforts of our community's graffiti abatement efforts. I had no idea The Anti-Graffiti Web would be of interest anywhere else. There was a tremendous amount of material on the World Wide Web that was pro-graffiti. Graffiti advocacy was blatantly everywhere and that concerned me. Expanding the The Anti-Graffiti Web to have significance for any community where graffiti is a concern seemed the right thing to do. If you read the Anti-Graffiti Web on occasion send me comments with ideas I can use to make the pages more informative.

My town's graffiti problem is relatively new. The problem is serious but in no way compares to the problem seen in our inner cities. Our greatest efforts continue to be getting our volunteer program started, building awareness in the business community, and arranging for a cooperative and swift response to abatement from all graffiti victims. We confront the same or similar problems of other towns associated with the tragedy of graffiti. Please share with me your comments about the Anti-Graffiti Web. Check back because it is always changing. Thank you for stopping by.

Free Simon Sunderland Campaign

A prison sentence was a simple response to a simple concept. The difference between graffiti and art is permission. Graffiti is not art, graffiti is a crime. So if you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

and the Philadelphia Daily News

Contain urban scrawl. Fight vandalism.

Every once in a while you run across a media organization that does a bang up job reporting on community problems and issues. The above link to "Contain urban scrawl - Fight vandalism" at Philadelphia On-Line is an excellent example of a local news organization making an issue out of graffiti vandalism. The news took that extra step to make the story even more accessible via the web. The presentation of this timely topic is terrific. Good job Philly On-Line! Thumbs up from An Anti-Graffiti Web Page!

Kudos

Thank you Observer

I would like to extend my thanks to reporter Anne Merriman of the U.C. Berkeley School of Journalism OBSERVER for the article she did about this page and the Unofficial Home Page of Pleasant Hill.

Thank you POINT "The Top Sites of the Web"

On February 9, 1996 POINT "The Top Sites of the Web" notified me that the Anti-Graffiti Page was, in their opinion, deserving of Point's Top 5% of the Web standing. The Anti-Graffiti Page proudly displays the POINT Top 5% symbol. The POINT review was quite good. Thank you POINT!

Thank you Take Back New York!

Take Back New York honors the Anti-Graffiti Web with a link on page one of the TBNY home page. Thank you TBNY! (Who says New Yorkers like graffiti vandalism!)

I reserve the right to publish on the web email sent to me regarding the content of this graffiti page. The pros and cons of any argument make interesting reading. Presenting both sides of an issue is also in the highest of American traditions and good journalism. At least one person thought I was not ethical in making my e-mail public. (A graffiti advocate.) This paragraph serves as official notice there is a strong likelihood I will publish Email I receive. I may publish messages of anonymous individuals, or I might eliminate or keep intact the identity of the writer of messages that are not anonymous. Those who insist on anonymity should not expect me to respond to their e-mail.
