On December 1-12, 1996 an exhibition of 134 photographs documenting Tokyo's homeless residents was shown on the streets of Shinjuku for a benefit photo exhibition entitled The Shinjuku Street Project (Shinjuku Ryojo Shashin Ten). These images were the work of twelve self assigned photojournalists that portrayed an intimate view of Tokyo's homeless exhibited in unauthorized locations of Shinjuku Station.
