The FocalPoint f/8 crew took to the
streets of Cologne, Germany, during Photokina, the World's Biggest
Photo Show, to show you the unseen side of one of the world's great cities.
FocalPoint f/8 Director Tripp Mikich, Contact Press Images photographer and Russian Chronicles' creator Gary Matoso, designer and installation artist Sigi Torinus, and journalist Suzanne Nelson, searched Köln to bring out the people and places that make Köln such a unique city. We were also be joined in Cologne by Joe Meehan, Photo District News correspondent at Photokina, who gave us day to day hightlights of life inside the gigantic Photokina Hall. The Russian Chronicles,
our first experiment in realtime, online, interactive photojournalism which
began September 11th, 1995 in Vladivostok, Russia, when Contact Press Images'
photographer Gary Matoso and writer Lisa Dickey traveled 5,000 miles and
two months through the Russian heartland. Traveling with a high resolution
Kodak DCS 420 digital camera and two laptop computers, they recorded their
digital impressions as they went, relaying them back to FocalPoint f/8
in San Francisco via international email networks. You can still see the
results of their remarkable journey in our permanent site THE RUSSIAN CHRONICLES.
This "first of its kind" project, photo-based and totally digital Trans-Cyberian journey, was co-produced by FocalPoint f/8 along with World Media Network in Paris, France.
