Soccer vs. Football and vice versa

Soccer may have some of its roots in games played in China and Japan as much as 4500 years ago. Egyptian as well as Greek artwork from thousands of years ago depicted ball games that may have also had influence on the development of soccer.

Soccer, or one of its predecessors, was considered a dangerous game in England during the Middle Ages. A rough and tumble version of the game was played on the streets of downtown London and right through the market places at the center of town. Merchants would barricade their doors shut for fear of the rushing crowds that came along with the game, prompting King Edward II to ban soccer in 1314.
