Welcome to this archive of hundreds of MIDI theme songs! These are only the best sounding and most accurate versions of each tune I have found in GM & GS format. I am constantly scavenging the 'net for new TV & Movie themes, so I will be frequently updating these pages with more and more as time goes on. If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ. Anyway, I hope you enjoy what I've got here!
MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface, which is just a way to connect up instruments into a computer, like a keyboard or guitar. This allows the computer to record only the "notes" it's making, not an actual recording. So what you end up with is something like sheet music. The resulting files are often extremely small, and are interchangable between many types of computers as long as they have the right software. But the disadvantage is that [usually] you need a high-quality wavetable soundcard or synthesizer installed for the MIDI files to sound realistic; if you have an FM board you'll notice much lower quality sound.
The following are comparisons between various Wavetable and FM synths. These are recordings of each playing back the "symphony.mid" MIDI file. They can be downloaded in either WAV (higher quality, higher filesize) or RealAudio (lower quality, lower filesize) formats.

[MID] The MIDI file being compared. How does it sound on your equipment?
Want to test out that brand new soundcard? Want to demonstrate to skeptics the potential of MIDI? Or just want some nice music to listen to? Here are some excellent MIDI sequences (not from TV shows or Movies):
