Passive Solar Energy Project
A passive solar energy house and office in Halifax, with emphasis on heat storage in phase-change materials. Designed by Dimitri Procos. Click here for slide tour of the finished building.
Modeling and rendering done in Archicad 4.5 on a Power Mac 6600. The project demanded a careful analysis of sun light exposure on interior walls at various times of the year. Archicad heliadon feature was used to size the exterior sun shades for optimal light penetration in winter and full shading in summer.

Ventilation of hot air in summer is accomplished by means of solar chimney , which colects rising hot air from every floor level and exhausts it through the roof. This process is assisted by wind hitting the upper wing foil and therby creating lower air pressure around the point of exhaust.
