A three-masted, 321-foot, steel-hulled barque, STATSTRAAD
LEHMKUHL was built in 1914 at the Tecklenborgwerft
in Bremerhaven as a training ship for the German Merchant Navy...

Modeled on the revenue-cutter SWIFT of 1778, PACIFIC
SWIFT's design modified the features of the 18th-century
"clipper paquet brig" to accommodate more fore and aft sails,
which increase maneuverability and speed into the wind.. |

"Pungy" schooners were an indigenous and
plentiful craft on the waters in and around the Chesapeake Bay throughout
the 19th century. These colorful ships transported mercantile and perishable
goods from many small ports around the bay. To commemorate these vessels,
the Lady Maryland Foundation of Baltimore has constructed a full-sized
replica of these turn of the century "tall ships", and created
the two-masted, gaff-rigged, 103 foot pungy schooner LADY MARYLAND...
